Halloween Spin Class

My spin class that I go to on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays is the best! I can't live without it! While I was pregnant with the twins I hardly missed a day. I was spinning the day before the twins were born. This class has become like family. They even gave me a shower! One half of the room got things for Alexa and the other half got things for Preston. This is a class where you work hard and have fun doing it...and sometimes we even have cookies and cupcakes.

Today was the annual Halloween class. Because so many people want to come to this class they decided to have anyone that wanted to come give a donation to kids with cancer and that would reserve you a bike.

New Toy

Doug started a new job the beginning of October. It's in Bountiful, UT, so much closer than his last job. His last job required a plane to get to and this one....well Doug felt that it required a vehicle that we didn't currently have. He mentioned something about "saves on gas money", "can use the carpool lane", "will be able to get home faster", etc., etc. So, I gave in and Doug started hunting for the perfect motorcycle. He settled on some BMW one (I don't know anything about motorcycles so I don't know the model, just the make--I do know that it has heated seats, that I like).
Two weeks ago Doug and Chris (Doug's best friend) drove to Logan to pick up the motorcycle and then went on a joy ride to Bear Lake, beyond and back home. I think Chris was just as excited about Doug buying his bike as Doug was.

Life with Twins

So many people tells us how they have always wanted twins. Well, here is a small top 10 glimps into what having twins is like.

1. 140 diapers a week! It's a bit less now that they are sleeping through the night. They started that almost a week ago. They may still wake up around 4am, but after putting their binky back in a few times they are back to sleep until 7am. I'm sooooo EXCITED!

2. twice a day making up 8 bottles. That's 16 bottles a day to clean folks!
This is what it looked like to make the bottles up a few weeks ago. I only make enough breast milk to fill about a 1/3 of the bottle so then we have to add some 22 calorie formula. This was something the NICU asked us to use until the twins were 6 to 9 month old so they were certain to gain weight. Then the similac bottle is because we have spitter-upers as babies. The formula has rice in it to make it thicker and stay down. Since this photo was taken we now have a different approach to making bottles. We now make it in the blender ONCE a day and use this gel like substance called Simply Thick to thicken the milk that they drink--the rice formula was causing constipation. I've been able to start nursing them each twice a day (so four times a day for me and the rest pumping).

3. pumping, pumping and more pumping--I hate pumping!

4. go through 20+ burp rags a day--that and blankets, clothes and bibs makes for more wash each day! Thankfully that number has dropped since we started using the Simply Thick. Now we don't have to use as many burp rags and there are some times during the day that we don't have them wearing a bib any more because they aren't spitting up quite as much.

5. double the smiles

Not huge smiles here but they sure are cute!

6. crying in stereo surround sound (especially when the monitor is on)!

7. can't do it alone

This is two of the 7 women in our ward that consistantly came to help during the first month and a half that the twins were home. They would come at 10pm and stay until about 1:30 or 2:00am. That helped us out soooo much. We are also fortunate enough to have someone come and clean our home once a week and we have a nanny that is here during the day 4 days a week. My mom and dad come on Sundays and watch the twins while we go to Sunday School and Relief Society/YM. They also bring us dinner and leave the leftovers. We look forward to Sundays! Doug's parents will drop in when they can too. We really have great friends and family!

8. one pregnancy for two babies

9. a VERY stretched out stomach--will it ever go back to the size it was before?

This photo was taken about 2 months before the twins were born. So I got even bigger than this! Our camera broke in June and we didn't get another one until the day after the twins were born.

10. a boy and a girl, how perfect!

Bean Museum

Mya will usually go on a daddy daughter date with Doug once a month but since the twins were born daddy daughter dates haven't happened as much . So, a couple of weeks ago (this is how long it takes me these days to find a minute to myself) Mya and Doug decided it was time to go on a daddy daughter date.

For each date Mya will spend time finding the "right" outfit and maybe even putting on jewelry and perfume. She gets so excited. I can only image what it's going to be like when she starts dating!

So back to a couple of weeks ago--Mya and Doug decided on a plan and were getting ready to go but I got jealous--dates don't happen as often for me either these days--so I asked if I could go. It took MUCH convincing to have Mya allow me and the twins to tag along.

We first went to Golden Corral--Mya loves buffet food. Then we went to the Bean museum. I was surprised, how enjoyable it was, and that it was Mya's idea!

We had a great time looking at all of the displays and at one point we sat down and listened to a discussion on ecosystems. Mya participated. I'm amazed how much she is learning and knows at her age! It's wonderful as a mother to have a daughter that loves to learn and wants to go to the Bean Museum for a date!

On the ride home I expressed how much fun we had and asked Mya if it was OK that me and the twins tagged along. Quietly I heard a small noooo! Well, I don't blame her for wanting some one on one time with her dad.

Two days after the Bean Museum date Doug and Mya went to the BYU football game together. Doug let her have cotton candy, hot dogs and popcorn--he's a man that lets his woman have what she wants! 15 minutes after going to bed that night I found myself cleaning up a bed full of throw-up. I think she had a little too much fun on her date!
